Shaun Mackrell is a contemporary photographic artist currently residing in Central Victoria, Australia. An alumnus of La Trobe University (Bachelor of Visual Arts, Photography), he has spent the last eight years exploring the nuances of the antipodean perspective in relations to the individual’s connection to the modern domicile and public space.

In line with his upbringing in a small regional town, followed by a metropolitan education his work reflects the modern dichotomy of regional realities and the omnipresent influences of a technologically driven and rapidly changing society.

He has exhibited widely through Northern, Central and Metropolitan Victoria. He is a pro-active member of the regional arts scene with his work reflecting his desire to promote and develop the arts within a regional context. He has received awards for his services to community and the arts.

In 2012 Shaun was awarded a grant by Regional Arts Victoria, which saw him undertake his largest project to date. The project which took three years from conception to completion involved him returning to his child hood town and spending twelve months photographically documenting its inhabitants while compiling their stories. The project culminated in a touring exhibition and the publishing of a book, We’re Still Here.

Shaun balances his career as an artist with that of being a communications professional. Maintaining his focus of regional community development he works exclusively in regional areas with organisations that serve their communities.
